The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect in the country on Saturday with the announcement of schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The voting for 543 constituencies spanning across 28 states and eight Union Territories will be held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.
Announcing the Lok Sabha polls schedule, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar urged all the political parties to religiously follow the MCC guidelines during the campaigning.

The MCC is set of guidelines issued by the poll panel for the free and fair conduct of elections. Political parties and their candidates are supposed to follow the do’s and don’ts.
The MCC is kicked in from the date of announcement of election schedule and remains in place until the entire process is concluded. The MCC also bars the incumbent government from making any policy announcement.
When will the Lok Sabha elections 2024 be held?
The polling will be held in seven phases with first phase beginning from April 19. The results will be announced on June 4.
“First phase to be held on 19th April, second phase on 26th April, third phase on 7th May, fourth phase on 13th May, fifth phase on 20th May, sixth phase on 25th May and the seventh phase on 1st June,” Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said while announcing the schedule.
